FASHION: Five items you should and shouldn't spend your money on

It’s really easy to spend your money on stuff you’ll never wear, but now more than ever it’s important to save your money and shop wisely. Here’s a list of five things you should spend your money on, and things you should hold out on.

1. DO spend on Jeans: A good pair of jeans can last you a lifetime. Everyone has that one special pair of jeans that has seen the best and worst of adventures. The good thing about this particular piece of clothing, is that they are resilient and you’ll rarely have to buy a new pair quickly. Don’t feel bad about spending $30 to $40 on that great pair of jeans. Trust me, they are worth it.

2. DON’T spend on extravagant shirts: This is the number one mistake most shoppers make. They go on a crazy spending spree devoted to shirts that they’ll wear once, tear or completely forget about. The key is finding a shirt that goes with everything so you won’t have to constantly buy new ones whenever one goes out of style. Do not splurge on extravagant shirts. It’s a waste of money.

3. DO spend on a plain white tee: The beauty of a plain white t-shirt is that it does go with everything. A majority of the time, you can buy them in multiples so you’ll never have to spend a lot of money on a single tee. Plain white tees are staples of fashion and possibly the most versatile piece of clothing out there. You can pair them with jeans, tuck them into a skirt or shorts in the summer or wear them under a plaid shirt in between seasons. It is possibly the most beneficial fashion expense you’ll make.

4. DO spend on cardigans: The cardigan is a wonderful unisex piece of clothing. The beautiful thing about buying a cardigan is that, regardless of the color, it has the ability to turn any outfit into a completely new look. It’s a game changer so you won’t have to buy more and more clothing every time you want a new style. Just throw on a cardigan and you’re good.

5. DON’T spend on random accessories: Accessories aren’t just a girl thing. You would be surprised how much money guys spend on hats, watches and other small things. Accessories are fun, but they can ring up a not-so-fun bill. Trust me, you don’t need a new pair of earrings for every outfit and you don’t need a new hat because none of the 30 you own match your shoes. This is where most girls go wrong. Yes, it’s pretty, yes, it’s shinny, but do you honestly need it? No. I suggest you put your wallet away and stop spending so much money on such small objects.
