The new local venue in Lancaster, Industry Theater, hosts a benefit concert for breast cancer awareness this month where half of the proceeds of each ticket sold will go to research.
The concert on Feb. 18 was not peculiarly thought up; a source went to the venue in hopes of an opportunity to get help from the community. The venue was approached by a promoter with what the owner of the theater, Tully Gluffaker, called a “deeper tie” to the cause.
The name of the benefit concert is clever and to the point: Breastfest. The line up is made up of a mixture of genres. Local bands, as the LA-based ska band, Amenaza, and the hardcore band Redeemer will be preforming. Sovereign Strength is the headlining band playing their last show ever. As for the fundraising, Gluffaker assures that half of the proceeds will from each $10 ticket will go to research at The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Hoping the community can pull through again, Gluffaker said “I am extremely excited for the show since the last benefit show we had was such a success.”
Just opening the venue a little more than a couple of months ago in Lancaster, Gluffaker has had numerous approaches from bands and promoters in order for their music to be exposed to the Antelope Valley. However, the AV is anything but new to being the host to concerts with venues such as the Veteran’s Hall in Palmdale and the Cedar Center on Lancaster Boulevard. With only a couple of months under its belt, the Industry Theater has already reached out to the community with more than just music.
Earlier this month, another benefit show took place in the same venue. As well as raising $200 for a young girl with serious health issues, the concert racked up more than 100 cans of food. Each can was donated to Grace Resource Center in Lancaster.
