As the semester draws to a close, the prospect of finals is enough to send most students into stress-driven madness. Even for the most studious among us, an occasional break is in order. On Nov. 29, close to 30 aspiring masseuses from Charter College were offering free massages at the student lounge.

The event, which was headed by Shanna Ulrich, began at 9:30 a.m. and continued until 1:30 p.m. Within a matter of hours, Ulrich said that the amount of people serviced was "approaching a couple 100."

In reference to the others waiting for their massages, she said, "We also have a stack of papers about two inches thick."

The event was arranged through communication between Stephanie Johnson and Charter College's massage program. Ulrich also mentioned that events such as these are beneficial for all parties involved.

"Practicing chair massage in the community is actually common in the massage world."

Aside from the opportunity to practice their craft, these masseuses provide a service to the community while expanding their clientele.

If you couldn't find time in your day to receive a massage, the Charter College Massage Clinic offers their services for a fee. They currently have a number of winter specials, including a 60 minute full body massage for 25$. The clinic's hours of operation are Monday-Thursday, from 1:30-5:30p.m. and Friday, from 2:00-7:00p.m. For further information, the clinic can be contacted at (661)341-3544.
